5 Common Sense Weight Loss Tips

By George C Simeon Snr
When it comes to figuring out how to lose weight, a lot of people are looking for that magic bullet. A simple, easy solution that will instantly eliminate all of their excess body fat. If you want to figure out how to lose weight, take a couple of minutes to think about the common sense advice that is offered in this article. You don't need to be a dietician or a fitness expert to lose weight, you just need to follow the basics.
1. Stop Looking For Magical Shortcuts
Stop looking for that magic bullet. Weight loss takes time and effort, there's no magical solution that's going to instantly make you trim. Having said that, there are programs that exist which can guide you through the weight-loss process and make it much easier. Knowing the basics first, and then taking things a step further as you approach your goals will almost certainly ensure weight loss success, you've just got to stick to it which brings us to our next tip...
2. Stick with it!
Rome wasn't built in a day, and you aren't going to lose your belly in one week. Many people get discouraged from new diets when they don't start to see results right out of the gate, however it takes time for our bodies to adjust and to accept our new, healthier metabolisms. It's a lot easier to gain weight than it is to lose weight, so keep that in mind the next time you're reaching into the freezer for a treat.
3. Move More
Move your body more. This is how you burn calories. Maybe you don't want to walk to the grocery store and have to carry back many heavy bags. Fine, that's fair enough, but why not forget about getting a close parking spot and aim for the back of the lot instead? First of all, you won't have to deal with the anxiety of looking for a spot up close, just stop caring about it all together and you'll get a little extra exercise every time you go to the store by having to walk from the back of the parking lot.
Also, the more you exercise, the less effect you're going to feel from eating unhealthy foods every now and then. Think about the difference between tossing a cheeseburger onto a pile of lard. It just kind of sits on top not doing anything. Now imagine tossing a burger into a fiery furnace of fat loss, which is what your body will be like when you're moving more and exercising more. Muscle burns calories faster than fat, so once you're in shape you will have a little more leeway.
4. Eat Smart
It's not about eating less necessarily. Overeating is an interesting conundrum because unlike other addictions, you can't just stop eating or else you'll get sick and starve. We need to eat every single day to fuel our bodies and fuel our lives, so it's really important to be careful what you eat. You don't have to eat less, just think about what you're eating while you're at the grocery store. Anytime you buy junk food, you're just setting yourself up to eat it - so leave it on the shelves for somebody else and stick to the outside aisles at the grocery store - that's where all the good foods are.
If you don't like vegetables, it's probably because you're just not used to them or your taste buds are so used to being overwhelmed with salt and unnatural flavorings that they need some time to adjust. Don't worry, they will adjust, and after just a week or two of eating clean, you'll grow to love the fresh taste of all sorts of vegetables.
5. Cheat Days
It's okay to have a cheat day once a week. Yes, it will slow down your progress, but you've got to do whatever it takes to stay on track. What happens if you eat unhealthy on a day that's not your cheat day? Well, you won't get another cheat day that week, you'll have to wait until the next week. It's a lot easier to allow yourself one day a week to not worry about what you eat, than to constantly be worrying about eating unhealthy foods and making it a daily fight. This way, it becomes a weekly battle and you've always got that light at the end of the tunnel.
Should you still exercise on your cheat day?
Ideally, absolutely, but you can also time your cheat day to line-up with one of your off-days if you're doing weight training. Before long, you'll be eager to keep training on your off-days, once you start seeing the results of your hard work. Remember, don't get impatient if you don't see results right away, it honestly does take a while for the body to adjust but once you get into the flow of things you'll be watching that fat melt away.
Final Thoughts on these Weight Loss Tips
There's a lot more science that you can get into when it comes to losing weight and dropping belly fat, it's a bit more complex than "Burn more calories than you eat", but that's still a pretty good starting point. The purpose of this article was so that you don't have to worry about the science, the goal is to motivate you to just get started. Eat better, move more, and enjoy as your quality of life goes through the roof.
